Dominos

Store cleaner, who now owns his own business, acquired English through the Domino’s pizza menu.

When Alok Yadav first came to the UK, he could hardly speak any English. He acquired the ability to speak by studying the pizza menus at Domino’s and practicing saying things like “chicken” and “anchovies.”

A man who arrived in the UK with little to no English has described how he picked up the foreign language by studying Domino’s pizza menus and practicing pronunciations of terms like “chicken” and “anchovies.”

He is now starting his own pizzas franchise.

Alok Yadav, 36, began working for the company sixteen years ago as an in-store cleaner while doing a university year-long placement.

The former pupil, who was originally from India, arrived in Britain in 2007 and could only speak simple words like “please” and “thank you.” He is now starting his own pizzas franchise.

He spent many hours perfecting his pronunciation of terms like “chicken,” “anchovies,” and “pineapple” because he was determined to advance at Domino’s.

Alok spent his spare time practicing the line “Thank you for choosing Domino’s pizza, my name is Alok, how can I help” with his coworkers so he was able to answer the phone and take orders.

The Delhi native performed admirably and quickly rose to shop manager, overseeing the Domino’s location in Portsmouth North End.

Through the company’s Homegrown Heroes initiative, he accomplished another dream this past Monday (5 June) by launching his very own franchise in Swaffham, Norfolk.

It was extremely difficult, but I knew I had to pick up the language fast if I wanted to advance,” said Alok.

“I couldn’t say that, so it was difficult when someone wanted a ‘Meatilicious’ pizza.

“When I was younger, I had only heard of tomatoes and onions, so I had to learn the names and pronunciations of the other toppings.

It wasn’t simple. I had wonderful support from my coworkers in learning, and I was motivated to succeed since I loved my job at Domino’s.

We worked on the toppings and went through the phone greetings for hours in the apartment above the shop.

I therefore acquired English in that manner. When I gained more self-assurance, I swiftly advanced from being a team member to supervise, to store manager all within a year.

Even Alok, who fell in love with Rachel Yadav while they were coworkers in Farnham, met her when he worked in a Domino’s restaurant.

Alok eventually worked his way up to the position of area manager, but he soon got restless and desired to operate his own business.

He had already established himself as a very successful businessman in his very own right, opening more than 40 establishments, included coffee shops and additional pizza restaurants.

But Domino’s had always had a special place in his heart, so when the chance to open his own store under the Homegrown Heroes program presented itself, he seized it.

I was continuously in touch with my former coworkers at Domino’s, so when I learned that the company was bringing on new franchise associates through the Hometown Heroes initiative, I knew I had to get engaged.

“It was unique to me. I acquired the business savvy that has benefited me so well throughout the years while working at Domino’s.

“It’s a fantastic environment to develop a profession, and it gave me chances and useful skills.

I have come full circle now because it was my first passion and they gave me an internship.

“I couldn’t be happier. For me, it has been an incredible adventure.

Alok was one of the first individuals to apply to the Homegrown Heroes program, reinforcing his devotion to the brand, according to Dan Maund, franchise growth manager at Domino’s UK & Ireland.

“Over the years, he has started a number of successful enterprises thanks to his entrepreneurial spirit and persistence, which he acquired while working at Domino’s.

We are pleased that Alok has completed the circle by opening his first Domino’s in Swaffham.

What is Domino’s program for homegrown heroes?

With the support of a well-known brand, franchise enables entrepreneurs or aspiring businessmen to launch a new firm from scratch.

NatWest estimates that the UK franchise industry was valued £17 billion in 2018.

The Domino’s Homegrown Heroes program gives ambitious, business-minded individuals with prior experience working for the Domino’s network the chance to open their own store and join the Domino’s Franchise Partner program.

Successful applicants receive individualized support from the program, which guides them through every stage of the process until they open a business of their own and receive a share of the profits.

In addition to brand experience, the process takes six to 14 months and requires a minimum of £70,000 to begin.
