Mr. Mo Akhavani is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon and is on the GMC specialist register. He is a leading consultant in the field of plastic surgery with over 12 years of experience and having performed over 3000 plastic surgical operations to date.
Mr. Akhavani graduated from St. George’s Hospital Medical School, London in 1999. Having completed his general surgical rotation, in 2004 he embarked on his training in plastic surgery working in London, Manchester, New York, Shreveport, Miami and Toronto. As a result, he has worked with some of the leading plastic surgery specialists in the world. He has had extensive training in both reconstructive plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery.
Mr. Akhavani is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a member of the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (BAPRAS), British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and British Society of Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). He is the Chairman of the BAPRAS specialist group in Body contouring and the Assistant National Secretary for International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) for the United Kingdom.
His NHS practice is based at the Royal Free Hospital in London where has a specialist interest in upper limb reconstruction, body contouring post massive weight loss and skin cancer management. He is the Lead Consultant for Plastic Surgery Trauma in his department and is the chairman of consultant staff committee at the Royal Free Hospital.
In his private practice he has experience and expertise in all aspects of cosmetic surgery. This includes breast augmentation, breast reduction, male breast surgery with minimal scarring, liposuction, body contouring, abdominoplasty, face and neck lift, prominent ear correction, eyelid surgery, gynaecological rejuvenation and skin cancer management.


Additionally, in the private sector, he manages all aspects of hand surgery including repair of traumatic injuries, fracture fixation and managing more chronic conditions (for example, carpal tunnel syndrome and Dupuytren’s disease). Mr. Akhavani is one of very few plastic surgeons in the United Kingdom to hold both the British and European Diplomas in Hand Surgery and is an Examiner for both.
Mr. Akhavani has won numerous academic prizes for his outstanding contribution to plastic surgery. He was awarded the esteemed Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2009 for his pioneering Doctorate of Medicine (MD) research in plastic surgery. He is actively involved in research and he has had over 30 articles published in peer reviewed journals. Mr. Akhavani’s current research interest is in the field of transplant surgery. By participating in research, he ensures that his practice continues to be on the cutting edge of surgical advancements.
