PRINCESS Peach’s first solo game in almost a decade is nearly here.
Princess Peach: Showtime! is a sidescrolling adventure for the Nintendo Switch, set to release on March 22, 2024.

We got a chance to play the game early, and it’s filled with all of the charm you’d expect from the pink princess.
Peach changes into a different costume in each level which gives her a unique ability that is tested throughout the stage.
As a swordfighter, she can wipe out any enemy; as a cowgirl, she can lasso enemies and objects before throwing them; and as the excellently named Patisserie Peach, she can bake and decorate cakes.
It makes for great variety in the levels, as each is themed around a stage play ruined by dark magic.
You’ll need to sneak through and dispose of invading enemies as a ninja, chase down bandits as a cowgirl, or save fellow dancers as a figure skater.
While the light atmosphere makes for an enjoyable time, the game is exceptionally easy.
Where a game like Super Mario Wonder has levels easy enough for kids, but extra challenges for more experienced players, Showtime doesn’t cater to both audiences.
There are hidden collectibles in each level, but many are directly on the level’s path, and even the secrets aren’t that hard to spot on your very first run-through.
Nintendo confirmed to me that the game will feature ten transformations, each with two main levels dedicated to them, plus some bonus challenge levels later on.
I had a lot of fun bouncing through each of the first four levels I got to play.
As always, Nintendo’s world-building is joyous, as I love the little details in every nook and cranny.
With each level being presented as a stage play, the cutesy background design and the way the levels shift from screen to screen are wonderful.
Even if I can breeze through them, I’m excited to see what the full game has in store, as each new transformation leads to fun moments.
