I love shooters and the latest PlayStation exclusive has me completely hooked

FROM the cinematic intro you can tell that Helldivers 2 is the type of blockbuster game you’d expect from Sony’s PlayStation Studios.

It soon started trending online as a parody of over-the-top patriotism, except this war takes place in space.

As a Helldiver, you need to protect Super Earth from all threats, and that means travelling to other planets where violent alien bugs and robots live.

It’s live service, which means that the developers can update the game with new hordes of enemies when needed.

As players complete missions, they liberate each planet a little at a time, giving the global player base goals to aim towards.

It’s a brilliant way to change up the formula, as instead of doing the same PvE battles, you are encouraged to go further out to new planets to deal with threats.

Aside from liberating the planet, you will also gain a number of rewards and resources that will help you personally get stronger.

Taking on more challenging missions will help you level up faster, but the difficulty will ramp up quickly, depending on the mission type.

The one downside to Helldivers 2 is that sometimes the action can feel a bit mindless.

Your pod crash-lands on an enemy planet, you escape from the ship, and bring down all of the weapons your party needs.

You can either explore moving and shooting and pinging landmarks on your map, but you can just as easily go straight to the objective and head to the extraction point.

If you take the latter strategy, you can easily complete some missions by taking out less than 10 enemies, but that’s against the spirit.

A lot of the strategy of each stage comes from Stratagems, which are special skills that heal, replenish ammo, or even deal huge damage.

So, while running and gunning can be mindless, your brain can focus on all of these special skills.

It’s one of the most promising live-service games that has been released in years, and it’s clear to see why it’s become so popular.
