‘I can’t believe it’ Pokémon fans scream as rumours swell for upcoming showcase

POKÉMON Day is just around the corner, and people can’t wait for the upcoming Pokémon announcements.

There are plenty of rumours going around about what will be shown, though nothing is certain yet.

Despite this, as Pokémon experts we’ve come up with a number of predictions for what will be shown.

Here’s what we think will appear in the February 2024 Pokémon Presents.

Live-service updates – Pokémon Presents

Every Pokémon Presents starts out with a number of updates and events coming to its live-service games.

These announcements usually include free in-game items, upcoming events, and other new additions.

We expect to see updates for Pokémon Café Remix, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Go, Pokémon Sleep, and potentially TCG Live.

The live-service announcements aren’t usually groundbreaking, but they are welcome updates for players.

Worlds reveals – Pokémon Presents

This year, the Pokémon World Championships will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii, but we’ve only seen a short teaser for the event.

The Championships hold competitive tournaments for Pokémon Go, Pokémon TCG, Pokémon Unite and Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

We are likely to see exact dates for the event, as well as some more information about what is to come.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Events – Pokémon Presents

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is the first mainline Pokémon game to include live-service elements, and they have been extremely successful.

With regular Mystery Gift giveaways and tera raid events, we are likely to see some of these announcements during Pokémon Presents.

There was a huge Mewtwo event held last year, but we haven’t heard anything that big for this year.

However, a new seven-star tera raid announcement is expected, and perhaps some Mystery Gifts.

Pokémon movies – Pokémon Presents

Following the success of Detective Pikachu and the Super Mario Bros. Movie, we think another Pokémon movie is likely on the cards.

A sequel to the original Detective Pikachu game was released last year, so Detective Pikachu Returns is a likely candidate for a film.

Pokémon used to release animated movies frequently, but we haven’t had one since 2020, so this is another potential reveal.

We also expect announcements from Pokémon TV shows and short films and series.

Older Pokémon games on Switch – Pokémon Presents

This one is less likely, but we still believe there will be some announcement regarding this at the Presents.

The teaser for the event contained music from Pokémon Red and Blue, and there have been rumours that these games will come to Switch.

We’re not sure whether these will be standalone purchasable games or if they’ll be added for free to Nintendo Switch Online.

However, players have been asking for Red and Blue to make a comeback on Switch and it would be a welcome reveal.

Mainline Pokémon games – Pokémon Presents

We believe there will not be mainline Pokémon games revealed at the Pokémon Presents, as the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet DLC was only just released.

However, if one is announced, we have a few ideas as to what might be in the works.

Signs point to a game either involving Johto or Unova, thanks to a number of new Johto evolutions and regional forms, and the inclusion of Unova in Scarlet & Violet.

These will likely either be Let’s Go games or Legends games focused on either region.

There is the possibility of Unova remakes but we think this is less likely, especially soon after the release of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
