For the second consecutive year, the Top 40 distributor’s U.K. division was ranked as EcoVadis Platinum.
Geiger (asi/202900), a top 40 distributor, is advancing sustainability. The company with its headquarters in Maine, Geiger U.K., has been recognized as a finalist for the the Lloyds Bank British Achievement Awards for a Sustainable Business of the Year 2023. The biggest awards ceremony honoring British business will announce its winners in November.
The distributor claims that the recognition represents its beliefs and emphasizes the part it is playing in promotional goods sector to center its operations around environmental sustainability and impact on society and the environment. The award is evaluated based on four criteria: business ethics and policies, employee and involvement in the community, leadership and innovation, and financial development and performance.
According to Steve Wickham, procurement director, “Being nominated for Sustainable Business of the The year is amazing acknowledgment for the effort of the entire team in doubling down on our Sustainability Promise and integrate sustainability in everything we do.” It also serves as a benchmark for the promotional goods sector and how we are proving that high-quality goods can be produced ethically and with the least possible impact on the environment.
In order to have the greatest possible positive impact on common environmental goals, Geiger claims to have established trustworthy connections with its personnel, partners, clients, and suppliers. Additionally, the distributor mentions that it has sophisticated environmental reporting and management systems, demonstrating how its values are ingrained in every aspect of operations and how they are consistent with business goals.
Geiger U.K. said in July that it had earned an EcoVadis Platinum grade for the second consecutive year. This places Geiger U.K. amongst the top 1% of the more than 100,000 companies that EcoVadis has ranked globally. EcoVadis evaluates sustainability based on four key areas: environment, human rights and labor laws, ethics, and ethical procurement. Businesses have to achieve above 75 percent across all pillars to get a platinum rating, the best EcoVadis can offer. Geiger reported that it received an 82% overall score, with a 90 percent in the environment pillar.
Geiger, a family-owned business in its fifth generation, has always been committed to the environment. In 2018, it unveiled its LEED Gold Accredited headquarters in Lewiston, Maine. The 700-panel solar array powers the entire structure.
Geiger employs over 450 independent sales people and has locations in both the United States and Europe. With projected sales of $327 million for American promotional products in 2022, the company came in ninth on Counselor’s most current ranking of the top forty distributor in the sector.
