Boeing promotes green aviation in the UK and Ireland

In order to speed up environmentally friendly aviation in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Boeing has published a new Spotlight research outlining the company’s initiatives in these areas throughout 2022.

The UK and Ireland Spotlight examines developments in the UK and Ireland following the release of Boeing’s 2023 Sustainability Report a few months ago, which detailed the company’s global initiatives to enhance environmental stewardship and inclusivity.
The accomplishments are highlighted in the document’s four major sections—People, Products & Services, Operations, and Communities—and they support Boeing’s 2030 global sustainability goals.

Activities in 2022 will consist of:
1.introducing Boeing’s Cascade Climate Impact Model, a dynamic modeling tool that evaluates plans and scenarios to lower aviation’s emissions, at the Farnborough Airshow.

2.Being a member of the Virgin Atlantic-led team that obtained government financing to run the first transatlantic flight on only sustainable aviation fuel

3.Being a founding member of the Energy Innovations Centre (EIC) at the University of Sheffield, giving Boeing membership to the Sustainability Aviation Fuels Innovation Center (SAF-IC) to assist in scaling SAF production

4.directing two internship initiatives for people with disabilities at Boeing UK
establishing a Newton Flight Academy to introduce young people to STEM through programs centered around aviation, together with the Glasgow Science Center in Scotland and the mobile Newton Room in Dublin.

Maria Laine, president of Boeing in the UK, Ireland, and Nordics, said, “I’m extremely proud of the progress we’ve made in our efforts to decarbonize airplanes in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where while going on to make advances in building a workforce that is inclusive and diverse, as well as leading to the groups in which we work by means of STEM outreach, charitable partnerships, and volunteering.” “This spotlight shows our continued devotion to the UK and Ireland and the significant contribution this region can make to advancing sustainable aviation.”
According to Steven Gillard, regional sustainability director for Boeing, “we are working together with the Jets Zero Council, industry, not-for-profits, and academics to scale up the local SAF industry in support of the UK government’s targets to cut emissions from aviation to net zero by 2050.”

With over 4,000 employees in the UK, including early careerists, veterans, and reserves, Boeing has invested more than £12 billion in the UK supply network since 2015.
