Ali El Husseini

Ali El Husseini, Ph.D., is the CEO of Medici Land Governance (MLG), a company established in 2018 as a subsidiary of Overstock.com, which is based in Midvale, Utah. MLG’s mission is focused on using emerging technologies, including blockchain, to empower governments in developing countries at the national, regional and local levels to secure land rights for its citizens and to develop interactive systems and mobile applications that provide unprecedented access and economic opportunity to landowners. The long-term impact is to foster transparency in land administration and land reform programs as well as promote the objectives of gender equality, financial inclusion for all citizens, poverty reduction and elimination and sustainable economic growth.

MLG currently has pilot programs and signed MOUs (memorandums of understanding) in Zambia, Rwanda, Liberia, India and Malawi as well as with the City of Lusaka, which is the capital of Zambia, and Tulum in Mexico. MLG recently announced its first partnership in the U.S. with Teton County in Wyoming to move its current property registry to a blockchain-based land and property management platform. MLG recently signed an agreement with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to establish a cadaster system for St. Kitts.

Ali El Husseini was also the Vice President of overstock.com

A native of Lebanon, he has been with Overstock since 2009, serving in a variety of positions including, most recently, vice-president of the company’s global division. An expert in Lebanese constitutional politics, he received in his doctorate in political science and government from The University of Utah. He also is a board director with Bitt, a financial technology company utilizing blockchain and distributed ledger digital applications to facilitate secure peer-to-peer transactions.
