President Donald Trump criticized Walmart On Saturday after the largest retailer in the country, he warned this week that he will have to increase prices due to tariffs.

“Walmart should stop trying to blame tariffs as the reason to increase prices through the chain,” Trump wrote in Truth Social. “Between Walmart and China they should, as they say,” eat the rates “and not load customers valued.” I will be looking, and also your customers! “

Walmart’s financial director, John David Rainey, said in an interview with CNBC in Thorsday that, “we have not seen price increases in this magnitiude, at the speed at which they come towards us before, and therefore does a challenge.”

As a retail giant and the largest supermarket in the country, Walmart is seen as a vulgar for the health of American retailers and consumers.

Rainey said he is “satisfied with the progress that is the leg made by the [Trump] Administration on rates of the levels that were announced in early April, but are still too high. Including avocados and bananas of Central and South America.

He said the retailer moves to maintain their lower prices than competitors, especially at a time when buyers are joining discounts. To do that, he said that Walmart will absorb some of the highest costs related to the rate and expect suppliers to also absorb some higher costs.

Rainey said the company “will try to work with suppliers to keep the prices as low as we can.”

Walmart echoed that feeling on Saturday when he was asked to comment on Trump’s publication.

“We have always worked to keep our prices as low as possible and won,” Walmart said in a statement. “We will keep the prices as low as we can, as we can, given the reality of the small retail margins.”

Walmart joined a growing number of companies that have increased prices or warned that higher prices are produced due to tariffs. Microsoft Said earlier this month that the recommended retail prices of Xbox video game consoles and some controllers have increased.

Barbie manufacturer Mate Announced earlier this month that is taking the production of China, but prices are still expected to increase their toys. AND Ford He warned last week that prices would have to increase in some cars.

Walmart maintained its sales prognosis for the year in Thorsday, but refused to provide a prognosis of profit or operational income for the second fiscal quarter, citing the frequent changes in the tariff policies of the Trump administration.

The main American retailers, including AimHome Deposit and LakeThey are expected to share their own perspectives on the impact of tariffs when they report the results next week.

Walmart’s shares ended 2% further on Friday at $ 98.24.
