Japan’s exports slowed down for a second consecutive month, they showed government data on Wednesday, as the country wobbles under the radical tariffs of US President Donald Trump.
The growth of exports of 2% was in line with the estimates of Reuters analysts, it is the slowest since October of last year and the sausage shown since September when exports hired 1.7%.
The imports of the country were reduced by 2.2% for a year, less than estimates of a 4.5% decrease.
Japan’s true gross domestic product contracted 0.7% annualized in the first quarter of this year, according to preliminary government data, dragged by stagnant private consumption and deceleration of export growth.
Currently, Japan is charging a 25% tax in its automobile, steel and aluminum exports to the US. The United States key is subject to baseline rates of 10% imposed by Trump in most commercial partners. Japanese products also face ‘reciprocal’ rates or 24% why they have been temporarily suspended.
On April 2, Trump raised “reciprocal” tariffs in more than 180 countries, including Japan, only to suspend the issue later for 90 days, which allows commercial partners to reach agreements with Washington.
