
Nottingham Forest Taiwo Awoniyi striker is in a coma induced after having the first phase of surgery in a severe abdominal lesion.
The 27-year-old Nigeria, collided with the position in the 88th minute of the 2-2 draw against Leicester in the city of the city on Sunday when he tried to reach the end of a cross of Anthony Elanga.
He underwent surgery on Monday night and remains in the hospital, and the rest of the procedure will be completed on Wednesday.
In an earlier statement on Tuesday, Forest said Awoniyi was “recovering well” after the operation.
After Sunday’s incident, he recovered the treatment in the field and could continue, but was visible fighting when the game restarted.
Awoniyi, who joined Forest from Union Berlin in June 2022, had only been in the field for five minutes, after appearing as a late substitute for Ibrahim Sangare.
The owner Evangelos Marinakis Tok to the field after the game to express his concern to the manager Nuno Espirito Santo about how Awoniyi’s injury was handled.
Marinakis remains updated on the condition of the striker.
On Tuesday, Forest said that Awoniyi’s injury was “a powerful reminder of physical risks in the game and why the health and well -being of a player should always be the first.”
