“I completely appreciate the impact that this will have, particularly on those students who prepare for their exams next week, but, unfortunately, we had no other option. This was a different but necessary decision to ensure that our networks remain safe and protected.”
The Council said the attack attempt had not compromised data.
What should students do?
The exams were Friday, April 25 with key dates next week, including the highest mathematics exam on Monday.
Students have been told that they can access their personal review materials going to their school between 10:15 and noon.
A staff member will issue a new password, while the Council has created an online aid page.
The Council has assured that students currently in exams will receive priority support.

Second attack
West Lothian’s advice had to resort to contingency measures to maintain open schools earlier this week after the educational network of the local authority was attacked.
A Board spokesman said there was no evidence that personal or sensitive data would have accessed the leg accessed in the attack.
Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents someone from accessing a device and data stored in it, usually to encrypt files, according to the National Cyber Security Center.
