The monumental monumental sliding of Shoedereur Sanders in the fifth round was the greatest and most disconcerting story of the NFL 2025 Draft. How the field marshal of the Colorado Buffaloes, which was projected as high as a selection of the 10 best, ended up fun for the Cleveland Browns with the 144º?
A few days retired from the draft, Fox’s sports personalities reflected on Sanders’ situation and tried to make sense of what happened. But the reality is that there is no simple explanation.
From the different perceptions of his talent, to his approach to the process prior to the draft, to the “luggage” that accompanied him, this is what our analysts said about why Sanders waited as much as he did to move.
Reason No. 1: Shedeur Sanders was not seen as a first round talent
Sanders was a Poliaing prospect. Although he established Colorado pass records and ended the 2024 season with the highest completion percentage (74.1%) in FBS, Hey also led the nation in Sacks tasks and entered the draft with questions about his presence of pocket and mobility.
Many Draft analysts classified Sanders as one of the best quarterbacks in this class in Acedide No. 1 Cam Ward, but it was not a deep year in the position either. It is now clear that the NFL front offices have a high level of Sanders such as the media evaluators.
“How did group thinking arrive at a point where no media member had a source that was a general manager who was willing to say:” Everyone is crazy. “This child is not in the first round,” Danny Parkins said on Monday in “Ball Ball.” “Nobody had it. Nobody had it … man, they all deceived us for a group thought because, clearly, the NFL did not see this child as a first round selection based on talent or personality.”

“From the perspective of talent, he is not a generational talent as his father is a generational talent. Therefore, if you are not a generational talent, it is better than the other parts, the intangible parts of the process. And, in all reports, it did not have the intangible appearance of it.”
“For everyone to be offended that he was not recruited to him, I don’t understand it at all,” Craig Carton intervened. “Maybe Heyn has not endangered where they thought it would be in danger because talents explorers do not believe it is as good as he thinks it is.”
Is it surprising that Shadeur Sanders fell to the fifth round? The flock

Colin Cowherd transmitted what an NFL executive told him about Sanders “on Monday”: this executive said: “If it does not go in the first six to eight selections at the top of the second round, then people see it as a backing from A a Aaa A A”.
The first two rounds of the draft are stored with possible NFL holders. If there was the feeling that Sanders was not a headline, then it is understandable why he was recruited in the first rounds.
That said, Sanders falling to the fifth round does not tell the whole story.
Reason No. 2: The teams did not want to be part of the “circus” of the Sanders family
Shoedereur Sanders and his father Deion did the last two seasons in Colorado in a reality show. The team was a combined 13-12, but was treated and covered as a national championship contender. Sanders’ family celebrated an extravagant draft party and played its celebrity status in recent months. That is not something that the NFL teams are aligning exactly, especially if it is not a safe fire holder.
“Nobody wants a substitute field marshal,” Cowherd said.
“Deion went from coast to coast with the count”, “If the wrong team recruited his son, he was going to get an Eli Manning,” Carton said, referring to the 2004 draft when Manning, who was the clear selection No. 1, made explicit that you would play for the San Diego Chargers.
“Everyone says and they claim that he did not interview well,” added Carton. “He comes with luggage and not everyone moves him.”
“Deion, which has many friends in the media, saying, the duration of the Super Bowl, in multiple interviews,” we will dictate terms, we will not play for certain teams, and then among the interviews of sandbags of coasts, that explains (its slide), “Cowherd.
Bruce Feldman, a Fox Sports collaborator, wrote an article in The Athletic citing a former field marshal coach who said Shoreeur hurt when not participating in the Senior Bowl or NFL Scout Combine. “The Intel (he) was putting himself in Sanders was shocking: he had no self -awareness,” Cowherd shared about “the flock.”
Reason No. 3: Not many teams needed an initial QB in this draft
Even if the teams saw Sanders as a head of the NFL, or with the potential to be one, “there were not many teams that needed a field marshal to enter as a rookie and start for them,” said Key Shawn Johnson in “Speak” on Monday.

Tennessee’s Titans chose Ward. New York giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and preferred Jaxson Dart about Sanders. Las Vegas Raiders have Geno Smith. The Seattle Seahawks replaced Smith with Sam Darnold.
Then, that left the Saints of New Orleans, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Browns as teams with headlines. The Saints decided to write Tyler Shegh in the second round. The Steelers, who selected Will Howard in the sixth round, are still talking to the free agent field Aaron Rodgers.
And the Browns, who also used a third round selection in the Oregon Campo Marshal, Dillon Gabriel, finally decided to add Sanders too.

“When he started sliding, and we get all the teams that needed field marshal several times, he could have gone more easily,” said Eric Mangini about “the first thing is first.”
“I think this was: the property determined in Cleveland.”
No matter who made the decision, Sanders was recruited. And he will have the opportunity to demonstrate his value in the NFL and will show that his skeptics are wrong.
