Raiders’ first-rounder Ashton Jeanty practices for first time at rookie camp

Ashton Jeanty won to be able to do what he is doing best for quite some time: to make cups he would like to simply put him or put a hand on him.

So you can’t read much in Jeanty releasing in the open field in the Rooking camp of the Raiders on Friday, but Las Vegas hopes it will be at least one preview of what will come.

The Raiders put a lot of faith in Jeanty, the runner -up of the Heisman trophy outside Boise State, by selecting it sixth last month. It was the highest runner Drafted from the New York Giants Tok Saquon Barkley in second place in 2018.

Jeanty also received a four -year contract and $ 35.9 million that includes a signature bonus of $ 22.7 million, said his agent, Henry Organ. Its annual salary of $ 8.97 million is the 11th highest among the runners, according to the limit.

He called him a “life of a lifetime” to be in a rookie practice in the NFL.

“To finally be here, go to work with the team, it’s simply exciting,” Jeanty said.

Jeanty conforms to the profile of a Coached Pete Carroll team. Carroll was based on a similar type of back in Seattle, and Marshawn Lynch was instrumental in Seahawks doing consecutive super bowls and winning one. His resistant career styles and his 5 -inch frame and 215 pounds made him address a often painful experience for defenders.

With 5 feet 8, 211, Jeanty used a similar style of bruises to lead the nation with 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns. More account, he ran for 1,970 yards after contact, which would have only led the FBS.

That is why the Raiders decided to use a high selection in a corridor, just although it goes against current general thought. They could have addressed a different position in the No. 6 And it still has a quality corridor later in what was a deep draft in the position, but found that a potential generational player is too difficult to miss.

Special for a team that had the Sausage Ground game in the NFL last season, scoring 79.8 yards per game.

“It is one of those agreements where it satisfies the need and the best player meets,” said General Manager John Spytek, the night the Raiders recruited Jeanty. “You son of feeling that it is a perfect storm at that time too, and it is too much to ignore at that time. He is the perfect player for us this year, and we were delighted to turn it into an assailant.”

And now Jeanty is testing the first NFL with other players who are also beginning to learn what is needed at this level.

One of his new teammates, the offensive liner Caleb Rogers, played against Jeantty in Texas High School Scrimmages and runs in the same social circle.

“He had players who played with him,” Rogers said, a third -round Texas Tech draft selection. “So hearing a lot about him, I am excited to continue surrounding him, see how it works, see how a professional is like. I have heard a lot how he approaches the game and how he does a great job, so I am excited or that is.”

Rogers, he thought, said he doesn’t remember those first interactions with Jeanty.

“I don’t do it because he had (Denver’s open receiver) Marvin Mims on his team,” Rogers said. “He has the high school soccer yardas record, so he was the son of doing his thing at that time.”

Jeanty hopes to give Rogers and the rest of his new team performances they won to forget.

They are excited to have it. The Maxx Crosby star defensive wing transmitted its podcast on the first night of the Draft with the Jackson Powers-Johnson center. Both were ecstatic when the Raiders selected Jeanty, with Crosby pumping his right fist and Powers-Johnson raising both arms and screams.

There is also a video of Powers-Johnson knowing Jeanty, hugging him and saying: “I am your center.”

Expectations are certainly high inside and outside the Raiders facilities. Now it is a matter or Wheter Jeinnty meets them. It has a long way to go, but on Friday it was a beginning.

“Get out of seeing everything, how everything works,” said Jeanty.
