British architecture has long attracted filmmakers around the world, and among the most striking places are historical bank buildings. With its large facades, ornate interior and air of authority, these financial institutions sacrifice the perfect backdrop for action sequences, period dramas and everything else. Here, we explore some of the most emblematic British banks that have left their mark in the cinema, and why they are more than just bricks and mortars.

Midland Bank, London (now the NED) – The dark gentleman gets up

Located in 27 poultry in Corral in the city of London, the old Midland Bank is a surprising example of the architecture of the 1920s. Its interiors Art Deco and its iconic vault inspired the design of Fort Knox in the James Bond movie Goldfinger And he did it ideal for high -risk drama in The dark gentleman gets up (2012).

Designed by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, the building was transformed into the NED, a luxury hotel and a member club in 2017 and is an excellent example of how commercial properties in disuse can be reused in your luxury while maintaining its filming as filming.

Martin’s Bank, Liverpool – Fantastic beasts and where to find them

The Martins Bank building, Water Street, Liverpool, is a building in the degree II and the old bank built in the 1930s. Its neoclassical style and its cavernous main banking hall played a key role in giving life to New York of the 1920s in fantastic beasts and where to find them (2016).

Martin’s bank highlights the growing reputation of Liverpool as a filming center. In October 2024 the plans to transform the iconic Littlewoods building into a world -class film and television campus were approved.

Lloyd’s Building, London – Galaxy Guardians

We are back in London again, but it is an opportunity to visit a location of one of my favorite films (the appearance of the letter was appearance). A deviation from the design of the traditional bank, the Lloyd building has a unique style “inside out”, with exposed elevators and pipes. Although it is not a bank in the conventional sense, its futuristic appearance inspired scenes in Galaxy Guardians (2014).

Why are banks excellent film locations

Banks often combine the architectural drama with a sense of security and permanence, qualifications that lend themselves well to the storytelling. Whether it is an attraction scene or a moment of quiet reflection in a large room, thesis buildings have an atmosphere that few modern sets can replicate. Also represent an institution, often used to symbolize power, control and social structures.

From a commercial property perspective, exposure to cinema can give a new life to the properties, raise their profile and attract tenants, buyers or investors interested in heritage, location and character.
