The protesters joined forces to organize a protest outside the Hackney City Council this week to demand harder action to unscrupulous owners.

Acorn Hackney organized the protest, asking the local authority to do more to address the dishonest owners.

The council cabinet recently supported a proposal to launch a consultation on the introduction of new license rules in the private sector of the municipality, which would require around three quarters of the owners in Hackney to Promiphy for the established standards.

Only four rooms in the municipality, Haggerston, Hxton East and Shoreditch, Hxton West and Woodberry, would not be covered by the new rules, although HMO licenses would still be required.

Hackney Council says that property licenses help improve housing conditions, protect tenants and promote the administration responsible for property.

But Acorn Hackney says that the local authority should go even further, implementing property licenses throughout the municipality.

“The illegal activity by the owners covers at this time,” said James Maloy, secretary of the Hackney Acorn branch. “The councils have the powers to take measures against the bad owners, but currently they do not use them.”

“There is a great gap between the number of owners who commit illegal acts and the real number of prosecutions,” he added.

Acorn Hackney also asked CLLR Sema, a member of the deputy cabinet for private rental, to meet them to discuss how Hackney can implement a “zero tolerance approach” for bad owners.

Cllr Moem told the press: “In January, we approved a private sector housing strategy that establishes how we will use each power we have to increase accommodation standards, challenge the dishonest owners in the municipality and continue making good taste deserve, and this week we approve the plans to consult in a selective owner licenses plan.

“We will launch the consultation in the coming months and we want to know about the runners and owners about the proposals.”

The Council proposes a £ 925 rate for standard licenses in 17 of the 21 neighborhoods of the municipality. HMO owners will have to pay a £ 1,400 license rate.
