Aurora Borealis, AKA the Northern Lights, are normally only visible in the northernmost parts of the UK.
However, in recent years, the aurora has become more common.
The Lights’ visibility peaked in 2024 which saw the biggest geomagnetic storm since 2003.
On Tuesday, the Northern Lights danced across Scotland but experts have warned that 8pm tonight will be an even better night for spotting them.
A map revealed that parts of the midlands, the north and Scotland are all in for a chance of seeing the incredible lights.
In some areas (shaded in orange), the chances of spotting the aurora are as high as 90%.
The Northern Lights will appear once more on February 13.
Ahead of the brilliant light show, the Met Office released a statement.
It said: “Northern regions have further chances to see the aurora over the next few nights.
Cloudy skies mean limited view opportunities for most of us, but with clearer skies in northern and western Scotland, there’s a much better chance here.”
Aurora Borealis displays occur when charged particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere around the magnetic poles.
As the gases and particles collide, light is emitted at various wavelengths which creates the beautiful colours in the sky.
They are influenced by geomagnetic storms which originate from activity on the Sun.
The Aurora has been an integral part of many different nation’s folklore.
Vikings in Scandinavia believed that the lights were a sky bridge connecting Gods with the Earth, where Inuits believed the lights offered the power to speak to dead relatives.
The Sun is in its “solar maximum” phase which means we will see the greatest level of solar activity for 11 years.
After that, it will enter its minimum phase and sightings will decrease so head outside tonight for a chance to spot the lights while you can.
