The Fans Museum is the only United Kingdom Museum dedicated to fans and the trade of fans. You will find this cultural jewel in Crooms Hill, a winding path that connects the hustle and bustle of historical Greenwich with the Royal Observatory and the Meridian line.
The museum covers two georgian attached houses of the grade II list and is full of the most exquisite objects, covering more than 1000 years of fans and manufacturing of fans. This unique place is really one of the gems of the London Museum and should be a destination for anyone visiting Greenwich.
From the moment he passes over the threshold of this 1721 building, he will feel that he has entered the house of the era of someone’s regency. A Orangerie room worthy of Jane Eyre at the garden level adds to the romanticism of the building. Unfortunately, Orangerie used to serve one of the best cream teas in London, but now it is only available for private rental. It is also where some of the conferences are heroes.
The fans museum was founded in 1991 by the team of husband and wife Hélène Alexander and its late husband, Av Alexander. Hélène, born in Egypt, began acquiring his fixed fans collection in the 1970s. The museum opened to the public in 1991 and now celebrates its 32 years.
The flag fan is a gem of the 16th century and was probably manufactured in Venice. A fan like this would have an extent accessory and a serious state symbol.
The fans museum strives to promote the awareness and appreciation of the history, culture and art of fans and the manufacture of fans through exhibitions (of which around 300 have been organized).
There is also a collection of fans impressions that includes the Hélène Alexander collection and the collection of gifts, legislations and acquisitions of Fan Museum Trust. The collection can also be seen online.
Coronations and celebrations
In celebration of the coronation of King Carlos III and Queen Consort, the Fans Museum has opened a new exhibition: Coronations and celebrations. Apparently, Queen Consort is a great admirer (forgive the word game) of the museum.
The screens include fans of significantly real events throughout the continent, such as Royal Weddings.
Coronations and celebrations It is on until June 24 and is included with the entrance to the museum.
