As representative of the Voluntary Crown, Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE), Claire CBE acts as an intermediary between the Government and the sectors of the beneficial organization and the social company to defend the Social Value Law and ensure an improvement in the implementation practices. As a key player in the movement of the social company for more than 40 years, it brings great experience to the role.

In this blog, Claire explains why it is so important to involve social positions and companies in government supply chains, and how DCMS leads the way by creating the first commercial VCSE commercial plan.

Through the Social Value Law, the Government has committed to diversify its supply chains taking into account the social impact of a supplier, as well as the price, by granting public contracts.

The 250,000 voluntary, community and social organizations throughout the United Kingdom are in a unique position to offer social value; They are integrated into communities and have an expert local knowledge that can create better and more compassionate public services.

My role as a representative of the VCSE crown is to be the representative of the VCSE sector within the government, acting as a champion of the sector and the legislation for the fundamental role that the sector has in the delivery contracts in our communities. As part of this, I have focused on giving beneficial organizations and social enterprises the skills and confidence they need to offer for government contracts and subcontracting opportunities.

We have previously developed a Orientation set And are about to launch the VCSE contract preparation program to allow the sector to work with the government. Then, the next part of the puzzle was to educate public officials about the benefits of involving beneficial organizations and social companies in government supply chains and the steps they can take to encourage VCSE to participate in our commercial pipes.

To achieve this, I have achieved the Department of Culture, Media and Sports, which are the leader of the Government of His Majesty Voluntary, Community and Social Company Policy (VCSE): while creating the first VCSE Action Plan of the Government.

In the plan, DCMS undertakes to improve its VCSE visits in its sectors and the markets you buy, with the aim of increasing your appetite to participate in acquisition offers and reduce entry barriers.

This will not only provide beneficial organizations and social enterprises deserved for their positive contribution to society, but also ensures that we take advantage of the additional social benefits that can be achieved by involving them in government supply chains.

The purpose and ambition of the plan is to create a base of the best practices to be adopted and improved throughout the government. I look forward to continuing to work with the department to help them support them in achieving their objectives.
