CORBISHLEY BATTLES TO 23RD IN MEN’S 35KM AT EUROPEAN RACE WALKING TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cameron Corbishley (Andi Drake, Medway and Midstone AC) produced a decided exhibition to locate 23 in the 35 km male in the European Championship Championships of the Caminata team of the race in Podebrady, Chechia.

The 26 -year -old registered 2:36:06 to ensure valuable world athletic classification points while continuing his impulse towards the qualification for the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo.

After passing the 10 km mark at 43:32, Corbishley was well located in 18º, but an toilet stop in the middle of the race just before 20 km interrupted his rhythm, leaving him back to 23 at the midpoint (1:28:44). Regrouping well, accelerated the rhythm to go through 25 km at 1:49:57, but a second red card forced him to relieve slightly on the closing internships.

In a high quality field, the race was won by Francesco Fortunato from Italy in a time of 2:25:43.

Reflecting on his performance, said Corbishley:
“It was a race up and down today. It was fine in a package before the toilet stop. Then I left and felt really comfortable, but the second red card Meean had to go back a bit.”
