University of Birmingham

The Commonwealth Games are one of the world’s mega sporting events, the third largest in the world, overcome only by the Olympic and Paralympic Games in terms of size and scale.

After attending four Olympic Games and three games from the Commonwealth since 2002 in multiple capabilities, I can honestly say, a spectacular summer of sport and with Birmingham 2022 (B2022) is waiting for us only a week away!

72 nations and territories, 19 sports, 14,000 volunteers, 6,500 athletes, around 1.2 million tickets and a 1.5 billion global television audience, will put Birmingham and the West Midlands on the map on the map, as we organize the largest event has ever done what you have done. The University of Birmingham has signed the most extensive university association with the Commonwealth Games Federation in history. As an already established global institution, we are proud that the university is playing such a critical role to deliver the games as:

  • Main (larger) Aldea Aldea (which houses 3,500 athletes and equipment).
  • Place of official competition for Hockey and Squash (with 48 sessions for 11 days, welcoming 180,000 spectators).
  • OFFICIAL TRAINING PLACE FOR ATHLETISM / PARA-TOGLETICS AND SWIMMING / SWIMMING.
  • Official Catering Supplier for athletes, spectators, family members and games workforce.
  • Level 1 official partner.
  • Partner partner for the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR), International Route.
  • Home of the International Commerce Department (DIT) House of the United Kingdom for the West Midlands business and tourism program in our place in the city center, “The exchange”.

Since the games are financing with almost one billion pounds of taxpayers, the “legacy” should be done and examined. From London 2012, it is a word that is also used and confused, since it is equally important to define what we really want to say when referring to “legacy.”
