Labour’s immigration plans at a glance

Sir Keir Starmer has presented the long -awaited work plans to reduce immigration levels to the United Kingdom.

The prime minister said that the White Paper, establishing proposals for future laws, would make the system “controlled, selective and fair.”

Here is a summary of the key measures.

The qualification requirements to request a visa of qualified workers will rise again, reverting the changes made under the Boris Johnson government.

It will mean that the new applicants will generally need a grade level rating, instead of the equivalent of level A, which according to the ministers make about 180 labor roles intelligible for the visa route.

The lower rating requirements will remain for the sectors that face long -term shortage, or those considered key to the government’s industrial strategy.

But these roles will be linked to having plans to improve the training of the workforce, based on the analysis of government migration advisors.

At the same time, the Government says that it wants to expand the election of the “individual” visa of high potential “existing, doubling the number of universities of which applicants can have a qualification title.

The places in a scheme for research interns will also increase, and ministers say they want to make it easier for “scientific talent and superior design” to reach the United Kingdom using the global talent visa.

Immigrants will generally have to live in the United Kingdom for 10 years before they can request the right to remain indefinitely, twice the current period of time of five years.

There will be a faster route for people of “high rating and high content” with certain work declines, whose will be established after a consultation.

The five -year period will also remain for British foreign or citizens.

A dedicated visa will be abolished for social care suppliers who want to recruit from abroad, introduced after Brexit, with ministers who blame it for “exploitation and abuse” in the sector.

Visa extensions will be allowed until 2028, while those who already have labor rights can change the sponsor’s door for the term of their visa.

Graduates abroad can only stay to the United Kingdom for 18 months after their studies, compared to two years.

The ministers will also explore the introduction of a 6% tax on the income of the income of international students, which are “reinvested in the higher education system and skills.”

A “limited group” or official recognition refugees will be allowed to work in the United Kingdom through existing sponsored workers routes.

The government says it will increase the English language requirements for all work visas.
