President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday night that he was appointing Fox News, Jeanine Pirro, as an inter -American prosecutor of the Columbia district after withdrawing her controversial nomination of Ed Martin to occupy that role permanently,
“Jeanine is incredible well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the main district prosecutors in New York history, Trump said in Truth Social.” She is in a class alone. Congratulations Jeanine! “
NBC News previously reported that Trump was strongly considering Pirro for the position.
Pirro is the former district prosecutor of Westchester County, New York. She is also a firm defender of Trump, who forgave her ex -husband, to Pirro, for her sentence for tax evasion in the last hours of Trump’s first season at the White House.
Trump said Thursday that he was dropping the nomination of Martin, who had received criticism for his defense or Jan. 6 co -sheds of the Capitol, faced the strong probability that the Senate will not confirm it.
Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, said Tuesday that he would not support Martin’s nomination, trying what seemed to be a final blow for his opportunity to win confirmation.
Tillis cited Martin’s support for the accused of the Capitol’s riots.
“He is an excellent person and was receiving support,” Trump said in the White House while saying he was abandoning Martin’s nomination.
“I have to be heterosexual. I was disappointed,” the president said.
“Many people were disappointed, but that is the way it works. Sometimes this is how it works. And it was rejected, but we felt it would be very difficult.”
Trump also said: “We have someone else who will announce in the next two days who will be great.”
