British Superbike Championship: Two riders die in British Supersport Championship race

Two riders have died after a duration of an accident of 11 bicycles in the race of the British Supersport championship in Oulton Park on Monday.

Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, were fatally injured in an incident of “Major chain reaction” in the first round of the race when the runners left the one.

The race, the third of the weekend, stopped in the first round, with the director of the series Stuart Higgs then calling the incident “severe and catastrophic” when he announced that the event was canceled.

In a statement on Monday night, Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR), responsible for circuit operations in Oulton Park, said another pilot, Tom Tunstall, 47, said “had” significant injuries. “

“Tom Tunstall, 47, was initially treated on the track and was tasks of the Circuit Medical Center. He was later transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with important back and abdominal injuries.”

MSVR and the motorcycle racing control board added that they are “investigating the complete circumstances of the incident along with the Forensic Police and Cheshire.”

Carl Harris, Max Morgan, Cameron Hall, Freddie Barnes and Morgan McLaren-Wood were treated by minor injuries at the Circuit Medical Center.

Lewis Jones, Corey Tinker and George Edwards were also involved in the accident, but did not suffer injuries.

A Cheshire police statement said: “The police are investigating two deaths on behalf of the Forensic after a multiple collision in Oulton Park this afternoon.

“The emergency services were called to the scene after the collision, which turned out that two runners were fatally kurados and another with serious injuries.”

The Oulton Park event marked the beginning of the 2025 British superbike season, with seven other rounds that will take place throughout the United Kingdom before three ‘showdown’ events.

The race one of the meetings took place on Sunday with Bradley Ray claiming victory, before Leon Haslam obtained his first victory since 2018 at the Sprint on Monday.

The Supersport championship is a support class for the main British Superbike series.
