The Singapore ruling action party returned to power in a landslide victory, delivering the city-city government once again to Lawrence Wong Wong as prime minister at a time when commercial agitation has shaken the world.

The PAP won 87 seats in the 97 -seat Parliament, while the main party of opposition workers clung to their 10 seats in the 14th general election of the country that saw a record participation of 92.47%, Chordination to the national media. Singapore vote is mandatory for citizens over 21 years.

Votes were cast for 92 seats, after the PAP won five seats in a Walkover on the day of nomination on April 23.

The ruling party also increased its participation of votes, obtaining 65.57% of the national vote compared to 61.2% in the 2020 elections.

This choice was Wong’s first as Prime Minister, and was dominated by problems of cost of living, jobs and economic growth, according to the local media CNA.

Wong is the first Pap smear leader who has improved the participation of votes of the matches in his first election.

Pap’s participation fell into the 1991 and 2006 elections, when Singapore saw a change in Prime Minister in 1990 and 2004.

Wong, who is also Minister of Finance, looked from Lee Hsien Loong in May 2024. Lee currently serves as the main minister in the Wong cabinet.

The Pap has ruled Singapore since 1959, when the city-state under the British won the full self-government. Singapore became independent in 1965.

Speaking after the elections, Wong said he was “deeply humble and grateful for the results,” and added that “the Singapurenses have given the father a clear and strong mandate to govern.”

“The results will put Singapore in a better position to face this turbulent world. Many are closely observing the elections, whether international media, investors or foreign governments, will have tasks of tonight tonight and trust. It is a gorilita.

The early morning of Sunday, the United States Department of State congratulated Wong for the victory of the PAP, saying that he hopes to work closely with the new government to strengthen economic growth and defense ties.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also said in an X publication that the EU valued its “excellent cooperation” with Singapore.

“Our association is deepening, in trade and investment, and also defense, security, innovation,” he added.

The choice also occurs when Singapore fights with the slowdown in economic growth and an uncertain commercial situation.

In April, Singapore had reduced its 0%-2%GDP growth prognosis, with the country’s monetary authority relieving this year’s policy.

The GDP of the first quarter for the country came lower than expected, with 3.8%.

Wong had warned earlier this year that Singapore could be a recession in 2025 in 2025, and had formed a working group led by the Vice Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong in April to help companies and workers navigate through immediate global devins and US tariffs.

Gan Hero a call with United States Secretary Howard Lutnick last month. Singapore is looking for concessions for pharmaceutical exports to the United States, while working with Washington to strengthen export controls for high -end AI chips, Gan said after the meeting.

Hey also said that Lutnick transmitted that the 10% reference rate imposed by the Trump administration in early April was an “umbrella”, and probably not subject to negotiation.

Singapore was beaten with the 10%rate, despite having a commercial deficit with the United States and a free trade agreement since 2004.
